The Ego is an identity of our own creation, a false identity that helps us navigate reality. It's primary function is to make sense of our reality and social constructs. It also protects the inner child from perceived emotional threats. It also helps with balance of moral standards that we have grown to understand as well as accept. Within the ego we find pride, personal drive/desire, fear and anger. We also find balance with a healthy self esteem.
As we tame the ego, we are working to consciously control issues of shame, arrogance and fear. These issues create a disconnect from love and our connection to God or Source Energy. When we operate in a state of fear, we immediately disconnect from our own internal place of power and love. We tend to push others away, over inflate our abilities and isolate ourselves from community.
An unhealthy ego is one that creates volatility, it says that we are better than, stronger than and is very suspicious of others. A healthy ego doesn't react to things or people negatively, it has no need to defend, justify, rationalize, fight or manipulate. A healthy ego is one that has a strong sense of self and trusts in oneself and others, including one's abilities. When you have a healthy ego, you can create your reality from moment to moment in a way that allows for peace, love, abundance and connection with self and others.
Today's challenge exercise:
- Observe your reactions today. Take note where fear, shame, arrogance is creating a reaction in you. Write your observations in a journal. Do not judge yourself, simply observe where the unhealthy ego is in control.
Mantra for today: “I am consciously aware of my ego's need to protect me from perceived threat.”
Tomorrow we will work on discovering the ego's fear based programs that create unconscious reactions.
